THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS
Anti-wrinkle injections, more famously known as botox are one of the most requested treatments for an aesthetics clinic. It is perhaps one of the treatments people first think of when they are considering anti-aging treatments due to its huge popularity and media attention. Sadly, within parts of the industry it has become a bit of a default treatment for a range of concerns.
We have a different approach at Naturally Flawless and our in-depth patient consultations allow us to open up a range of treatments depending on the concerns of each individual. However, we do believe there is a place for well considered and well administered anti-wrinkle injections. In this ultimate guide we aim to uncover the myths and talk openly about this popular aesthetics treatment.
What are anti-wrinkle injections?
Anti-wrinkle injections are applied to sections of the face to temporarily block nerve signals to the muscles in that area. The muscles that cause the lines and wrinkles are relaxed and therefore the skin that sits above remains smooth. This treatment is often referred to as Botox due to the brand name of the administered Botulinum Toxin.
Is botox safe?
Anti-wrinkle treatments are considered completely safe in small doses and when applied in a controlled environment by a qualified professional practitioner. These are considerations that should not be compromised on when looking for a practitioner to undertake anti-wrinkle treatments. Risk of complications are significant if your practitioner is not qualified, does not know what they are doing and over administer the toxin.
Botox is a prescription only medicine. Legally this can only be prescribed by a medical healthcare professional.
At Naturally Flawless Aesthetics you can rest assured that any of our practitioners offering anti-wrinkle injections are qualified professionals with medical backgrounds.
Can anyone have anti-wrinkle injections?
No, not everyone can have botox injections. Legally, anyone under the age of 18 cannot have botox. It is also not recommended to anyone pregnant, breast feeding or with certain medical conditions. These points should be discussed at your consultation appointment.
Outside of these points there are other considerations as to why someone should or should not opt for anti-wrinkle injections. At your consultations we will always discuss a range of treatments for the concern you are looking to address. Sometimes, there is an alternative option to utilise before we opt for botox. If you are looking at reducing the appearance of wrinkles for example, the use of dermal fillers can be a great way to plump the skin without the use of a toxin.
Will I look like I have had work done if I have anti-wrinkle injections?
Providing the treatment is undertaken by a professional, having botox should leave you with a natural and refreshed look. People often refer to a ‘frozen’ look with botox and this will only happen with over use of the treatment. Something a good practitioner will never allow.
A well applied botox treatment will aim to soften wrinkles rather than reduce them all together. This allows for the most natural look and will still allow for your face to make expressions.
Will I look worse when the anti-wrinkle injections wear off?
No, when your anti-wrinkle injections wear off your skin will look as it did before the treatment. Your practitioner will advise on if you can repeat the treatment if desired.
How often will I need botox injections?
The results of your anti-wrinkle injections will last between 3 and 6 months. This time frame can range from patient to patient. Lifestyle, muscle activity and metabolism can all have an impact on the longevity of the anti-wrinkle injections. It is usual for your very first anti-wrinkle treatment to wear off faster than any subsequent treatments.
What can I expect when I have botox?
The anti-wrinkle injection treatment itself isn’t a long treatment. It’s usually completed within 15-20 minutes. The needle used for this treatment is very fine and discomfort levels are minimal.
After an anti-wrinkle injection treatment you should be able to continue with your usual activities. Occasional side affects can include redness and swelling to the treatment area. You should avoid lying down for at least four hours after the treatment to all the botox to settle.
You will start to see full results within around 2 weeks after having the treatment.
